It would seem that anyone who could consistently arbitrage a currency OR synthetically front run transactions would be able to capture a great deal of value extremely quickly. Further, they should have an easily identifiable and intelligible record of success. Have a pitch deck ready if you don't already.
Either one should either generate the capital you need, get your system bought by a big player, or get you hired with a big salary by a big player.
In my experience, it just means that your habits have become that which you don't want them to be.
Look into creating a morning routine that gets you to working on something so when you wake up you get out of bed and start something, anything. Start making breakfast (this can be easier if you have the coffee pot on a timer so it is ready upon waking), pound some water & a banana before going for a run, do hygiene and get dressed -- any of these make a good starting point. Finally, getting out of the house/apt to a workspace can really help the focus as well -- I dream about working on my startup all day at work but when I get home I frequently fall into the traps you've discussed unless I go to a place specifically to work.
As a redditor you might want to look at /r/getMotivated.
Finally, the biggest thing for me has been realizing that "just start" is really, really helpful. If I can just make myself start on something for 5min then I can easily work on it for 5 hours but that initial resistance is by far the worst of my barriers.
A false positive costs much lower than a false negative in this instance so it should follow that FP should be more common. However, without the data it is still speculation.
Whether false positives or false negatives are more harmful is a difficult question. A false positive might stop millions from taking a life-saving drug. A false negative might cause millions to take a life-threatening drug.
By nature a false positive interaction could be re-tested more easily than a false negative though, correct? Also, that fits in with medical "first, do no harm" framework more readily.
Regarding your second point, I agree. But it must be balanced against the other tenets of medical ethics. At any rate, this seems to be an important study. I look forward to seeing the same study carried out across different EMR databases and then meta-analyzed. That will be extremely powerful.
Sure! I can say that my acceptance into the program allowed me to attract significantly better cofounder candidates than I was able to before. I know that they do not discriminate against solo founders in the application process. What else would you like to know? Happy to answer your questions :).
Sorry for the delay, things got away from me for a while.
How little Spanish could one speak and realistically get by? Yo sé un poquito, solamente un poquito. The website says they work in English but the general Chileans?
If the idea is a web & mobile service that focuses (almost) exclusively on the US & UK, would that be feasible?
Can you talk about what type of talks and events are required for founders to give / attend and how demanding on your time this is?
At the end of that time period, what happens to your work visa and whatnot? Can you stay to work there, are you expected to work there, etc...
I spoke no Spanish when I got here and have survived so far. Seems you know more than me! Chileans don't speak much English - maybe 5% of them are bilingual?
They want to see startups that will target the world eventually...could say US/UK are starting points.
No talks are mandatory to attend, but you need to give or organize a bunch. Maybe 5-10% of my time.
You get a work visa for 1 year. Expected to stay for 7 months. You can try to get a permanent residency after 1 year
I'm forwarding your link to some friends who work consistently rotating shifts and need to be accessible. It seems like doctors, nurses, and sysadmins would be potential users. I'll ping you if they have any feedback.
I have no experience in this so be skeptical of this. It might be a good idea to bring on an adviser for this sale? Perhaps talk with a VC just to help on the sale for some flat fee -- say 5k$ + 3% of the sale - transactions fees? Use your own numbers of course.
If they are offering serious money (being BigPharma I imagine it isn't peanuts) you will want this handled professionally. Peace of mind that you are getting a good deal and while they company maintains interest.
What about doing a "partial sort" where the point sum of a discussion thread starts to go lower that it is pushed lower than any zero/positive sum thread? This way discussion threads that are low quality tend to be pushed away, but the rest are treated equally -- after some testing to make sure the modification isn't too sensitive.
Not everything is binary. Other people have different motivations than you. Not everyone does an Ironman for bragging rights. Not everyone starts a company for bragging rights.
Reality check: how many people do you know that climbed Everest? When you claim to know why most people do something that you actually have no clue about, you look like an incredibly arrogant douche.
Either one should either generate the capital you need, get your system bought by a big player, or get you hired with a big salary by a big player.
Let us know how it turns out!
