Hi there, I live in Austin and just went to New York for the first time last week, but didn't spend any time doing tech-stuff. How is the community up there? Was the transition to NYC easy for you?

So far I've gotten an impression that the best NYC techies work in finance and startups are left with those who couldn't get in. It may sound harsh, but that is what I hear from people here.

I miss Austin a lot and I'm not alone: wearing a UT t-shirt in Central Park almost always leads to a random conversation with an ex-Austinite.
