I find it strange that its some kind of epiphany that businesses should have some kind of actual revenue model when starting up. Certainly that was the tone i got from the article.
The sentence where I stated: "It seems like people are starting to wake up to the idea that startups should more closely resemble traditional businesses and actually make money by charging for a service they provide (radical concept)." was meant to be sarcastic. Guess that didn't come across...
