Godot foundation posted an update: https://x.com/godotfoundation/status/1840721449364988300

Community responses (that may or may not represent active users of or contributors to Godot):

"We were harassed and started blocking users indiscriminately. Here's a google link if you think you were blocked for not harassing us." is basically the summary.

It's 2024. If you're taking money from people and they're building a product with you, then you need to have a little bit thicker skin than what was shown by the community manager.

Extreme “I want to speak to your manager” energy.

It's a worrying precedent in Godot's community management conduct that is the last thing you want to see from a project that is so promising at improving the health of the gamedev ecosystem.

Saying that, this is a submission with a fairly technical focus, especially when compared to https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41391684 and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41106977 (both of which are luckily [dead]).

> It's a worrying precedent

This is not a court of law. One small likely temporary event is not a pattern.

> that is the last thing you want to see

That’s hyperbolic. I can think of several things that would be worse and far more impactful. For example: deleting the repo, changing the license, and going to work for Unity.

> this is a submission with a fairly technical focus

It’s one person complaining of being blocked on social media ad threatening to stop their 100€ support.

There’s no technical focus here, this is internet drama getting more out of hand than it deserves.

It's actually a pattern of behavior, but no one's done a complete writeup yet. I agree that this single tweet doesn't meet the standards for a discussion point.

I find Lunduke tends to over dramatize things, even if there is usually an element in truth in what he's saying.

Side note: I'm not a conservative.

There is evidence that directly contradicts this: https://x.com/Xrayez/status/1839981060853043696 (subsequent thread is also interesting to read, both from technical and group dynamics perspective)

> There’s no technical focus here, this is internet drama getting more out of hand than it deserves.

What was the focus of the two (dead) submissions posted from your account linked above?

This one highlights a situation that affects a technical project, its continued community health and future contributions to its development.

You’re the one fixated over technical focus. HN’s guidelines specifically say what’s on topic “includes more than hacking and startups”.

Either way, trawling through history to find something unrelated to nitpick is quite the bad faith argument. You have your fair share of downvoted comments too, but I’m not about to bring those up for a conversation that has nothing to do with those.

yeah honestly looking at the (frustratingly small amount of) info i've been able to find it seems like the godot folks are behaving pretty reasonably, and this drama is like most drama—needlessly inflated.

They're blocking everyone that ask them to stay out of politics and focus on the engine.

I got banned for submitting my game in the showreel because it has Christianity elements.

They've been taken over by activism.

I'm fine with then promoting LGBTQ games, but they're being unfair to everyone else.
