Self-hosted solutions are the way.

No one will be stealing your data as the big corps do.

Less chances to overrun your budget because of how cloud platforms conveniently have no breaks on utilisation of resources.

We take care of that ourselves by self-hosting and having faulty or unmonitored backups :)


Or you can use something with straight-forward pricing, like Digital Ocean. I don't understand why AWS is default for everything. People need to snap out of that racket.


Because provisioning/configuring/monitoring/scanning/patching/grooming servers sucks.. and people are lazy.


Digital Ocean is even on the expensive side these days. There are a lot of vps providers that offer decent pricing and include bundled bandwidth. Some of the hosts may not be good for business-use, but should be fine for personal stuff.


I must have missed the incident where a major cloud provider was stealing their customers' data. Do you have a link?
