My university had a software engineering and computer science majors. Practical difference was that the SE majors took the standard 1st & 2nd year core engineering classes, which meant more physics and DSP classes. After that both majors took mostly the same classes. CS majors took a bunch of SE classes and vice versa. I could theoretically go back to school take about 8 classes and get a SE major.
