OSMand does an OK job of editing things on OSM, but whenever I use it I wind up hitting brick walls of things that aren't supported (like editing ways/roads).

Streetcomplete is good for updating data while out-and-about.

streetcomplete looks like a great idea! unfortunately i have an iPhone.. but yeah gamification is the way to go (just like google does)

You just make an account there and add it yourself.

Their editor isn't very easy to use though. I tried a few times but always went back to Google Maps because the UX is so difficult.
