During the UNIX wars heyday, except for special ones like Appolo (which used a Pascal dialect) or Tru64/QNX, they were also either based on AT&T UNIX, or the BSD spinoff.

A few common bases hardly matter, when every distro is a special snowflake with its own set of incompatible changes.
