Personally been working on replacing “brew” with “nix” for package management. Eventually using VMs spun up with qemu to emulate nixOS on my Mac for primary dev environment.

Strictly speaking this is not necessary. There are third party clients which don't require a Google account: Invidious for the web and NewPipe for Android. No idea about iOS.
I've replaced brew with devbox which is a wrapper around nix. It's really great, and I very rarely have to break the abstraction. Very excited for future advances in this area as nix itself is a nightmare but the idea is amazing.
I disagree. Just by looking at the link names, I realized the OP has a similar preference and job role, which made me explore some other options I was not familiar with. I’m sorry this didn’t work for you. But I discovered two new options to evaluate (Bear and Bruno).
It’s these little random posts that sometimes bring significant values.
Is anyone else using Bear for notes? Curious what people’s take on it might be, I’ve been thinking about trying to bring all of my various note taking under one roof, so to speak.
It might not be the best tool, but since I use it as a markdown editor, I also utilize it as a notes keeper with tags. In Bear, when you type #something, the hashtag immediately appears in the sidebar. I have many tags, including python, work, today, go, sql, and others.
The killer feature for me is the iCloud sync and the fantastic iOS app, allowing me to read and write notes on any device.
