Ask HN: Would you hire a smart VA for $12/hr?

Hi, I'm a HN lurker from Latin America. I'd like to land a job in a startup, or any IT company.

My desired compensation is 12$/hr but I could start with as little as 6$/hr to prove my value.

I am currently employed in a US traditional company via Upwork, but I'd like to work in Tech and thought this place would be good for it.

My English is near native. I have Project Management knowledge and consider myself a tech-savvy fast learner with out-of-the-box thinking skills. I also have college education.

What would really impress you? I usually send a presentation listing my knowledge and skills to job openings, offering a 'free consultation'.

I'd appreciate any advice, thanks.

I would not answer for others, but, for my needs, I would want to see your github repo with code you wrote. That's not necessarily what you had in mind, but thought I'd give you one view. Best of luck!

I have never written functional code. That's why I thought being a 'VA', 'EA' or 'digital project manager' was a better career path for me rather than being a developer.

I wasted some years in college -social sciences and humanities- so I always thought I was better for things like web research, project reports or mantaining databases, those are the things I have experience with.

Instead of learning a skill and then getting a job I prefer to get the job and learn the skill while doing a job-related project. It eases a lot of the -possible- frustration afterwards, or maybe I'm just too impatient to learn something the 'cold way'.
