AI will replace programmers in 5 years: Stability AI CEO (goldmansachs.com)

One has to take into account that Stability AI's CEO might oversell AI's abilities in order to get more investors.

You know what? I don't care.

I've never really cared really. I always wanted everyone to be able to be empowered by computers to the point they didn't need me.

The only thing that scares the bajeezus out of me though is the fear that software will still go out of control pilling abstraction layer on top of abstraction layer rendering the field eventually opaque to even the most determined practitioner.

But I guess that's something to worry about when we get to it I guess. Til then the chase for Quality is on.

You’ll have to then have an LLM explain the code to you.

However, that should also mean that the code can be translated into better quality code, and then that would be what’s run in production.

> Mostaque says 41% of all new software code on GitHub is now AI-generated.

I would venture that some 80% of it is just boilerplate generated by various tools like create-react-app.

Given that it will drive costs down significantly, lots of expensive so-called ‘seniors’ will be affected as well as juniors but the juniors be hired on the cheap with copilot.

In 5 years, the profession will have less programmers, not more.

Or not.
