This title is a bit click baity. The FBI investigated a potential homicide of an unknown individual based on footage found on a super 8 film camera. Once they were informed that the individual in the film was Trent Reznor and the footage was from a music video they closed the case. They weren't obliviously investigating the murder of someone who they could have easily confirmed was not dead for two years as the title implies.
