Octane X App Launches for M1 and M2 iPads (otoy.com)

What’s really crazy to me is that, just over 5 years ago I built myself a fairly high end workstation to do 3D work (2017 - so a Ryzen 1700X and an NVidia 1080 Ti etc) and my tiny iPad Pro 11 handedly beats it.

Those workstation specs aren’t very impressive today of course , but 5 years ago, they were about as good as you could go without getting into Xeons and Quadros. At the time too, the Ryzen was better than most Xeons available and the GeForce was preferred for GPU rendering over most Quadros.

The iPad weighs around 470g including a (small) screen. The computer by itself weighed somewhere north of 15kg , not including all the input devices+screens etc…

The only area the iPad can’t compete with my system is pure RAM. But still, 5 years to go from a big workstation to a device I just hold in my hand is really impressive. To me anyway.
