[flagged] Elon Musk recommends voting for Republicans in U.S. midterm elections (reuters.com)

And with that headline, Elon is never selling another Tesla to his target demographic again.

What if that was precisely his point? Musk is a marketeer, if he can convince people that you can drive a Tesla when you are a member of the traditional right it means more business for him!

Teslas have some appeal to car people, they look sleek and have terrific acceleration, it's just unfortunate that they have an image problem because they are associated with the woke left. Elons comportment will change that view.

People who drive Teslas are overwhelmingly doing it for environmental reasons, as well as supporting the cause of electric vehicles (aka mitigating climate change).

Most Republicans aren’t interested in those causes.

Elon isn’t a marketing genius. These tweets are hammering Tesla’s stock price- it’s down 4.5% on a day when the greater market is up slightly.

I'm so tired of hearing about this doofus.

So am I… but he is threatening to break the favorite toy of the chattering classes, so he gets to be the new media punching bag that replaces Trump.

I don't understand why this was flagged. This is pretty serious.

Elon managed to do what Trump could not (or did until he was banned), i.e.

- Buy his way to an extremely popular social media platform, to - Broadcast his political views to hundreds of millions of people

This might be an early knee-jerk reaction, but moves like this have me very concerned about the future of the US.

I mean, Elon Musk also bought Twitter; I'm not sure that I'd necessarily go to him for advice on anything.

I'm always grateful when Elon reminds me as a consumer to avoid spending my money with companies he is involved with. My new car was going to be Tesla. No more.

Probably related to Biden refusing to ack Tesla when talking about electric vehicles. He eventually did, but not before Musk and others noticing the cold shoulder and calling it out publicly.

Based on the comments, when exactly did Elon go from loved by HN to hated by HN?

This place was almost exclusively into him until the cave diver thing; it was kind of cult-like. I think the "wait, maybe this guy is an arsehole, rather than a magical super-genius" tendency started growing at that point.

Everyone had (or will have) this wake up moment at some point. Here it was thai pedo slander, for me personally it was that Tesla will school Toyota how to make cars.

When he tried to insert himself into the Thai cave debacle and called the local expert a pedo and then hired a fake detective to dig up evidence.

HN feels totally lost in last couple of weeks. The endless Mastodon + Twitter + Musk spam is pretty bad and no amount of downvoting and flagging helps.
