Your comment was essentially of the form "Some Xs are Ys, Z is an X, therefore Z is a Y", which is of course wrong. "Simplistic" is not one of those words whose pejorativeness depends on context.

Simplistic doesn't have to have a negative connotation. Infact the word simplistic can have, and very often does, a very positive connotation.

Perhaps I'm just getting the definition of pejorative wrong?

The dictionary's on my side, but maybe usage is changing.
