> Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said he plans to propose ending all tenure in Texas for new hires and revoking tenure for faculty who teach critical race theory, a framework of scholarship to examine racism.

Another populist measure aimed at pleasing his supporters.

As a reminder, this is the same guy who said that elderly people should sacrifice themselves to keep the economy going.

This is just to keep on using part time adjuncts and pay them pennies, so the university can funnel the millions in tuition into their endowment. Another step in college becoming adult daycare.

I believe that's part of it. But there are issues with tenure. I feel it's like pensions - dying out in favor of cheaper (for the company) alternatives. Without dangling the carrot of tenure, perhaps the distribution of compensation will be more level (ie nobody wants to go into education if tenure is gone and pay is the same for adjuncts now).

I think the admin just believes that computer based classes will replace everything and they expect to not have teachers. Need to cut costs.

This is a great way to recruit second teir talent that doesn't have a hope of getting tenure at any univerity outside Texas.

It's a jobs program /s.
