Honestly, I think _that's_ the thing: It's not really about making it optimized for "either" side, it's about "bringing the sides together". People from the technical side always wring their hands and moan to the heavens about how Javascript/CSS is so terrible and wonder how it came to be the juggernaut it is. The truth, I think, is that it did better than any other language/community in creating a safe space for creative folks to cross the gap to the technical side and visa versa. It's that "maelstrom in the middle" that truly wonderful things come from.
