I have been seeing the word "cadence" used in technical settings more and more often, usually referring to the pace or rate at which a process is executed (e.g., software releases, data dumps, meetings).

What is the etymology/origin of this technical sense of "cadence"? (Part of me fears the answer might be Peloton…)
