Linux on the desktop has tons of problems, some of itself, some of the hardware you have to use with it, specially if we're talking about laptops.
Using Linux on the desktop is like trying to use Mac OS for your servers. Just don't. Save yourself a lot of pain. I also dislike many things about Mac os and apple in general, but the alternatives aren't any better.
