Dark Trade by Donald MacRae is a great book. Gave me a new appreciation of James Toney.
Boxing is frustrating as fuck these days though. I prefer boxing over MMA as a spectator, but UFC being the promoter and the sanctioning body at least ensures that the fights people want get made. As it stands we still don't know if Fury/Joshua is going to happen over doubts about the venue in Saudi Arabia.
Having said that, though, the top boxers make 10-20 times the money that the top MMA stars make (Conor MacGregor being the exception). It's no wonder the top MMA guys talk about fighting the top boxers.
I used to watch it as a kid also. Admittedly I don't follow it as I used to, but I don't know of anyone with explosiveness like say, Tyson. Or young Holyfield. Somewhere along the way I guess people learned they could win just as well on points. Mayweather, probably the most famous boxer of this era, and certainly the most well paid, has some of the most absolutely boring fights one could imagine. At least compared to the slugfests of before.
