He articulates the point that I’ve seen in many HN discussions - we never really had truly “free speech” to begin with, and for good reason. The concept of Omega Events helps to explain how and why these things happen.
I think his explanation of it being a rule built on exceptions, and typically only encompassing exceptions, is apt. Rather than it being able to redefine the very foundation of what we believe in, it’s trying to strengthen our core beliefs by explicitly expanding to cover what might’ve been implicit assumptions
