Caring for dwindling groups of increasingly eccentric users sucks. That doesn't mean nobody will do it, especially at first, and especially if there's money in it, but don't expect such maintenance efforts to have much staying power.


https://github.com/naftaliharris/tauthon is one candidate. PSF controls the Python trademark, so forks can't actually call themselves Python 2.8.


I don't expect that because the Python 2 die-hards are, shall we say, not a maintainer-friendly crowd. You'd have to pay me FAANG bucks to even consider it.
