The gatekeeper here is Adobe, not Google. This is what you get when you store information in a proprietary format with a single implementation controlled and developed by a single private company. There's always the risk they'll kill the product (like they're doing here) and your information will become inaccessible.

Also, it's not just Google doing this. Pretty much every major browser vendor is dropping support for Flash in 2020.



Adobe didn't kill Flash, Apple killed Flash with Mobile Safari. Adobe is just accepting Flash not having a future.
