Nothing in the cloud is actually safe. So, rather than completely dismissing Evernote, just make it safer by synching it with Google Docs or Dropbox or any other platform via cloudHQ. It'll provide you with a real-time sync of whatever is in your notebook, AND it'll save an archive folder for you in the other platform you synched it with (i.e. dropbox) in case something accidentally gets deleted from your Evernote notebook.
