I am so very pleased to see a site called "plain vanilla web dot com" being almost at the top of hackernews in 2025.

Nice one. Since it's a Free in browser pdf editor, Why is it not on GitHub ?

Thanks! It's not on GitHub because I don't desire for it to be redistributed by others. I will be releasing a downloadable desktop version (as a Progressive Web App) with even more features for a nominal one time payment. It makes the most sense to do it this way because having some monetization is good motivation to keep improving the product, while people still getting the benefits of running it completely locally.

Besides, most people working with PDFs aren't developers who wouldn't be able to host it locally on their own.

I am so pleased I stumbled on this little game by chance. Really lovely. Well done. Keep it up

Thanks! Really made my day to hear you found it by chance and enjoyed it.

That website really talks to me. Some people might click and click away. Others, like me, will feel like being in your shoes. Because they are. Every 3/4 months I go and say hello to my mother and i see how she changes with age. No photos, but the same sense of ineluctability

When I was little I used to think it was a shame that I could not show my dreams. I could tell my parents what I dreamt but not show them what I saw (or thought I saw while dreaming). Getting closer

I have similar memories. And I remember drawing similar conclusions. When children are little a little walk with Daddy was great. We used to walk about a whole mile for me to get a coffee and for her to get a fruit juice... and guess what ? on the way back it was bus time.

thumbs up for this comment. As for me, I am tired of people talking about AI starting their argument with incorrect information

looks like layoffs are going to continue for a while amongst tech companies. I think it's more significant the 20% cut in yahoo https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64596061

Yours is an incredibly good comment. The comparison software/architecture is something that I have encountered here and there over the years, but you brought it to a new level. "don't add a second bathroom until you ve got customers complaing about deadlocks on the first". Beautiful. Thanks

i have not read the article just the title... otherwise I would not have enough time to work the long hours I am expected to.
