Fidelity had a similarly terrible password policy (6-12 characters, only letters and numbers). I complaining to their tech six months ago and got a stock "we're looking into it" answer. In the past month they've actually fixed the issue and now require 6 characters (upper case, lower case, number and symbol).

After getting frustrated with Evernote being slow and buggy I switched to Simplenote (http://simplenote.com/).

It's simple, fast and seamless. You start typing and it automatically syncs your note for you. It does one thing that does it well. That being said it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Evernote does (audio notes, OCR, etc).

Second the vote for Simplenote. Super fast native Mac & iOS apps. Search is lightening quick too. Decent web app as well if you need it.

Funny enough I build an app that is almost identical: http://memeifier.com/

I see you are using Puma for your rack server, how do you find it performs compared to Unicorn?

I haven't done any load testing on this app in particular since it's pretty low volume. However on another high-traffic Rails app I did some benchmarking and found Unicorn to have a 10% faster response time and much less variance at the high end. Obviously YMMV.

I don't think it is the same talk, he talks about the tagging platform which is a new feature.

Or maybe the slides are just that old? :-)

I actually just finished a project for super-simple URL based meme generation: http://memeifier.com/

Finally, something useful on the internet!

Creator here. I'd be happy to hear any thoughts or feedback you have on mixtrss. I've been using it for the past few months and thought you guys might enjoy it.

How often are there new mixes? Can I come back every day and find new music?

yeah, the data is refreshed (and re-sorted) daily. You will often find the same mixes for a few days since they keep getting more popular, but good new mixes will bubble up while older ones fade away.

I generally enjoy longer, continuous pieces of music so that my mood can flow with the music and I don't have to spend time tinkering with playlists.

I started by listening to prog-rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson), then moved onto sample-based stuff like Dj Shadow and RJD2. Now I mostly listen to EDM/Mashup dj mixes from soundcloud which are great. I've been enjoying them so much I built a small site for finding the best mixes (http://mixtrss.com/).

Awesome little site you built! I too like to work to mashup mixes - kapslap being a fave. It's that continuous flow, like you said.

37Signals described how they tackled this problem in Basecamp Next (see the "Thou shall share a cache between people" section) http://37signals.com/svn/posts/3112-how-basecamp-next-got-to...

Their solution is similar to #4.

To your concern about disabled javascript, you can still do what they describe but add CSS classes to all elements that would need to be hidden for non-admin/logged in users and just use display:none;

Finally, I would given some serious thought to who the audience is for the application. For most applications the % of users for whom javascript is disabled is so tiny for the amount of work it would require that it is not worth the effort.
