Typical data capture and analytics isn't like Prism. Seriously, you overestimate your own importance. Facebook doesn't care what you individually do, it's all about collecting statistics about everyone so they can better reach the groups you're a part of.

I know, and I'd rather the service be paid for by myself than by a secret service.

It's much easier to redact something than take responsibility for it.

It seems like there's an opportunity for someone to package technology for this audience in an easy-to-use way. I forget were, although I saw it somewhere, that someone packaged an ipad, a sqaure, and a receipt printer together as a bundle, I think that may work here as well.

That someone was Square.

Except for food supplies and truck maintenance, you would be lucky to get the average food truck operator to spend money on anything else.

This is one of the coolest things I have seen. I hope that this is the direction that user interfaces goes in down the road, it is much more exciting than 2D.

... and much less efficient/productive.

Well, like anything different tasks will call for different UI's. After looking at the OPs demo I could immediately see this being used with Radiology Imaging systems.

But it is 2D.

Thank you for this link, I had never heard of them!

Totally feel you on the PostreSQL comment. I am very impressed by the dedication that's apparent in that process.

That's pretty neat. Good job with it.

Because we're all disillusioned, and politics doesn't play to our strengths. It's very illogical.

I feel we're using excuses because we don't want to admit our weakness. We shouldn't be complaining about the world if we're not willing to make an effort to make it better.

What qualifies as "big data" though? Is it a terabyte? A petabyte? Or is it just a buzzword?

I work in BI and data analysis and this is my personal definition: traditionally, companies have mined their own internal data. Cost to sales, balance sheets, customer surveys, top sellers... Etc.

Big data are defined as those data external to the organization. My definition of big data is to also look without as opposed to only looking within.

It's a buzzword but it's also meaningful. If you've ever tried to look at data that doesn't fit on reasonably sized server you'll understand.

My thoughts exactly. How many lives would this save? I think on the order of several thousand a year, minimum.
