Individual republicans may well love science, but the Republican party is and has been anti-science for a long time, and aggressively so.

Listening to the Christmas lectures was a high point of my childhood, and everyone in my family still remembers and talks about the ones we watched.

I was startled when I was interviewed by an AI interviewer, since I wasn't expecting anything like that (perhaps I'm naive). It asked a series of questions about my job experience and technologies I had not worked with, then at the end I was informed that my application had been rejected - for a position that was not the one I was applying to. I only regret that I did not think to just repeat "banana banana banana" over and over agin to see whether I could drive the AI into a weird state. That would have made it all worthwhile.

Sounds like Idiocracy to me. We really are speed-running into that movie world.

CS Lewis on the dangers of caring too much:

"It is one of the evils of rapid diffusion of news that the sorrows of all the world come to us every morning. I think each village was meant to feel pity for its own sick and poor whom it can help, and I doubt if it is the duty of any private person to fix his mind on ills which he cannot help. (This may even become an escape from the works of charity we really can do for those we know.) A great many people now seem to think that the mere state of being worried is in itself meritorious. I don't think it is. We must, if it so happens, give our lives for others; but even while we're doing it, I think we're meant to enjoy our Lord and, in Him, our friends, our food, our sleep, your jokes, and the birdsong and the frosty sunrise."

I think there are different types of 'caring'. Of course you can't care about everything and everyone. but you should have some things in life that you care about.

Many people nowadays don't. Their job sucks and they don't care about it, they have no relationships, no real interests. They just distract themselves with meaningless things they don't actually care about. They watch videos/shows/streams they don't really care about. They play games they don't really care about. They eat food, but don't care about it. And they don't feel any motivation for anything anymore.

Is the company DataAnnotation? I ask because the feeling I get from comments on the Internet is that they are not a real company - they might just be collecting people's contact information for their own reasons. Just my opinion.

I don't have kids, and will never have kids, but even so I don't see people whose children are being denied food as a problem that the children's parent's caused. I see hungry kids who can't learn because they're distracted by hunger as the problem, and I will gladly pay taxes to see that they don't go hungry.

Could this be it? TLS 1.3 connection, with every field in the packets labelled: https://tls13.xargs.org

No, not that one either. The page was static and full of high quality images dissecting the format structures.

That may be the first time I've heard of AI actually creating jobs, rather than abolishing them.

This is how I got laid off. Working on legacy software, sole person on the team, eventually management decided that it could be replaced by AI or some such pixie dust.

And it was 1971 when the last chemical castration as a 'treatment' for homosexuality was performed in the US.
