We're looking for our first full-time software engineer that will own the development for our web application. We are a fully remote team and do most work asynchronously, with the exception of planning meetings, etc.
We are looking for people who value empathy. Our biggest driver in how we operate internally and how we build our product is empathy. We're strong advocates of creative simplicity - creating new ways to make people's lives easier by having a deep understanding of their problems. This is a follow-up on a previous article looking at Revenue Per Employee that a lot of people commented on saying (rightfully so) that Gross Profit per Employee might be a more insightful measure to analyze. Link to previous article: https://craft.co/reports/where-do-the-most-productive-employ...
There is book called The Wheat Belly that has a good explanation for the evolution and genetic mutation of gluten throughout history to make it easier to mass produce - resulting in a new genetic makeup that is entirely different and very hard for our digestive systems to process. Intolerance manifests itself differently in everyone so it goes widely unrecognized in many people. You have to go over a month without any gluten to really notice a difference and it seems most people quit after two weeks of "no results." Even if you love pizza/bread and can't imagine ever giving it up, its still an interesting read to understand the science behind the theory.
Visa is a payment network, not an issuer (like Discover or AMEX). They don't issue credit cards to consumers, they just act as the underlying technology in the five-party model connecting merchants to consumers and their banks and the merchant's bank. Chargebacks are disputed with the issuing bank, not Visa...
I know this. But Visa sets the rules of the game. They make the rules, everyone else participates.
Visa isn't really a technology company. That's how they started, but these days, I think of them as more of a "facilitation platform" responsible for getting everyone into one legally sound network and defining common standards for things, everything from data interchange to how long customers have to request chargebacks, how long banks have to respond, what are valid reasons for revoking an authorization, etc.
These CEO compensation comparisons are almost always bullshit because of the way CEOs are usually periodically compensated with a large stock award that vests some number of years later.
Using Cook as an example, given he was previously awarded 7 million shares of AAPL, if you averaged that out over time he'd be right at or near the top. From another article:
> Cook did not receive a stock award in 2017, after receiving a large award of 7 million shares that vests on an elongated schedule through 2021 upon being named the successor to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011. That award was valued at $378 million at the time, making him the highest paid CEO of that year.
Interesting that Twitter itself lost the most followers by a huge amount (as an absolute number) but the CEOWorld Magazine losing 64% is a staggering metric...
probably because Didi bought out all of Uber's operations in China and thus effectively monopolizes Chinese rideshare. it would be interesting to see rideshare market share broken down geographically
