I thought of the same parallel when reading the post.

I've recently read Outlive for health advice. On its recommendation, I've taken up regularly walking with a loaded backpack of 20-30kg ("rucking").

The basis for this recommendation is that until recently, people would have been exposed to carrying weight in day to day life, but an increase in our daily convenience has reduced this more and more.

I can see that there would be benefits in doing the equivalent thing mentally as physically. "Rucking" for the mind.

Outlive also recommends mental exercises like learning an instrument or new language as potential ways to stave off neurodegeneration.

This is a nice idea, in line with the Slow Journalism movement [1].

I subscribe to Delayed Gratification [2] since I find the slower, more considered reflection and summarisation much more satisfying than the overwhelming deluge of up-to-the-minute news alerts that flood my phone.

This seems aligned with that philosophy, nice work. I look forward to not hearing much from you soon!

Thank you! I've heard of Slow Journalism, but not Delayed Gratification, which is really beautiful.

> think its still blue, but for an eye washed in silvers, everything looks gray.

This is a lovely phrase. Is it an idiom or your own creation?

Thank you. I wrote it as I was inspired by the Silverwash from Witch Hat Atelier, a disease that causes the eye to see grayscale. Its also because silver is a symbol of money, and as an adult; the responsibility to provide for our family, pay here and there, taxes, tuitions, mortgage, etc - can make life feels bleak.

Ah, nice. I initially interpreted silver as age (grey hair) but that made me intrigued: age can make you jaded but can also give perspective to appreciate the good.

It works on different levels, I guess. =)

I interpreted it to mean "many shiny new tools" so that any project just feels like "nothing special" any longer, queueing up with all the other shiny tools.

There is a similar quote from Bojack Horseman „You know, it's funny; when you look at someone through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.“

Not really relevant. But the quote reminded me of the show.

Reminds me of the "magic" switch at MIT's AI lab: http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/magic-story.html
