A note of interest: Apple told us we had to remove our Android lessons from the app for it to be allowed in the App Store: http://tech.co/treehouse-ipad-app-2013-07
I teach Android and iOS at Treehouse, and I was shocked to find out about this! As disappointing as it is, we are still excited to offer students this app for everything else, and are hopeful that Apple will change their stance on this. As a side note, if we release an Android version of this app, we will take the high road and include the iOS content! :-p

Having moved to teaching after 10 years of software development, I can definitely relate to this post. I love how researching how to explain something has really made me understand concepts on a much deeper level. I appreciate things I never appreciated when doing pure development, and it's driven my hunger to learn more as opposed to learning enough to get a task done.
I've played this game a bunch and can't wait to get my own copy. Randy has done so much amazing work to make this fun for gamers and non-gamers alike, and our kids! It's awesome to see somebody who works in the digital realm manifest a physical product. :)
It is a really great game. I've played a bunch of times with Randy (the creator) with 3 or 4 people and each game has been different and challenging in new ways. It's one of those I appreciate more the more I play it. Can't wait to get my own copy!
Your own desire (financial or otherwise) is absolutely key. It's an extremely competitive landscape, but the barrier to entry is low compared to other industries. You can do quite a lot on your own with an investment of mostly time and energy.
I love the Big Nerd Ranch! That's definitely a great way to learn, but if you want more than just a book to work from, that's where Treehouse is here to help (Big Nerd Ranch has AWESOME bootcamps, too). It's so exciting to have so many great resources available cheaply or freely.
