I really don't understand one thing: is there a single american who still think this has been done to liberate a country from a dictator in the name of freedom?
Seriously?
This has been done for economical and power interests and USA is the most destabilizing power in the world and a source of war and desperation and death: they supports israel to get political power in middle east, they invaded countries as done in Iraq, they push Nato to the border of Russia and provoke war (not to say Putin had right to invade Ukraine but what would have done usa if mexico Canada or Cuba had russian weapons and support? Oh yes, we knew about Cuba).
And the president Trump: he’s just a ridicolous bully like the ones you can find at high schools.
Please US citizens, grow up. There had been a time when you were admired and respected, now your country is killing the world.
I’m not saying former soviet countries lived better under soviet imposition, but no one can be so naive to think US did that to help and free people.
When a mobster comes to you and free you from your previous mobster, it’s not because he is a good man and wants you to live freely: he does it to impose you his will and power exactly as US have always done.
As the parent comment said, the Warsaw Pact countries pleaded to join. Even Russia wanted to join at one point. America did it for its own reasons? Good, they win and we win.
For some reason I can’t reply to your next comment on nato forced on your country.
When I’m implying that nato has been pushed to former soviet countries I’m referring to the influence done by US to support different governments. In Ukraine revolution in 2014 has been greatly supported by US.
I’m in no way saying China, Russia or whatever country is acting better, I’m just saying nobody can be so naive to not understand that there is no ideal of freedom involved in any US action but only political/power interests.
I’m curious to see which freedom-related justification will be used for the future annexation of Greenland
I have already said that living under soviet would have been worst but that is not the point.
The point is: usa is acting not in the falsey mith of global freedom but only in the name of extending its power and influence.
In Venezuela they didn’t combat narcotraffic otherwise I must expect Italy (my country) invasion since we are the home of one of the greatest cancer in history: mafia.
Don’t drink the lie USA are fighting for freedom otherwise a lot of human lives will be sacrificed uselessly
Nato is an extension of usa in the sense that even if it is a group of nations, in reality, it’s under usa command and influence since usa is its “major shareholder”.
The US provides a large amount of the military force so it has a lot of influence but you're missing the point: it is a mutual protection agreement. Each country agrees to protect the other against attacks. This would be the case even without the US. It is not under US command since it a cooperative organization that elects its own leader and everything it does is though mutual agreement.
But you didn't answer my question: how is NATO a mobster? Because the US is involved? Even if one accepts your anti-US view in this regard, how does that make the other countries in NATO mobsters? Guilt by association? Other NATO countries have shown to be quite independent from the US in recent history.
You misread my comment: when I referred to mobster I was talking about the US “liberating” other countries and not to NATO.
So this is the response to your question.
Anyhow NATO is still under US great influence so in a way or another is acting as an extension of US.
There is nothing bad in joining a coalition but please don’t tell me NATO is not acting as a branch of US when exercising US influence.
Now go back to the point: US liberated Venezuela, yes for sure and it didn’t do for oil or other political interests and it won’t force it’s interests upon those of Venezuelans nor it will put people in command that are neutral and are not puppets in the hands of the US…come on how can you believe the bullshit of war to export democracy and freedom, how?
I responded to your comment as written, you're adding more to it in this reply or importing earlier of your comments. I still disagree with your characterization of NATO.
The US invasion of Venezuela illegal under both US and international and just plain wrong.
I don't support it and never said I did, go through my comment history and check if you want to.
I’ve always thought it would be cool to build a side project like OpenStreetMap, where people can mark the places traveled by famous historical figures — kind of like what you did with Paul’s journey, but open to any historical figure. Do you know if there’s anything like that out there?
I don’t know of anything like that, but what a cool idea. I have a passion for the Silk Roads as well, and I made an interactive map for it. Soon I will add Marco Polo’s and Ibn Battuta’s routes to it. I really like historical journeys and how they intersect with the modern locations
I moved from Aider to ClaudeCode for the simple reason i usually use IntelliJ Idea and even if poorer than RooCode on VSCode, integration between IntelliJ and ClaudeCode is reasonably solid.
That said today i started using CCR since the possibility to use different models is extremely interesting (and the reason why i initially used Aider)
Nothing more to add to what has been said ("charging" enhancement is the top one feature needed), this is a great work!
I simply wanted to share with you how proud would i be if my 9 yo child made such a similar game and wanted to thank you for inspiration since it's a few months i'm thinking to teach him the basic of programming even if i don't want him to focus on computers and screens in general.
I wrote my first assembly routine when i was only 7 on my commodore64 (thinking of it today i'm really really amazed!) but today our world is different and i think today we must try to keep our children away as much as we can from tech stuff so this is what is keeping me away from teaching him coding.
I try to make a distinction between consumption and creation activities. Consumption activities (social media, youtube, playing games, etc) are time limited. But we're much more relaxed for creation activities (coding, making music/art, etc).
This approach helps keep them safe from some of the negatives of the web, while letting them learn something valuable.
This was our approach too, it worked pretty well. When Covid and the lockdowns hit it all went out the window for us. It was simply to hard to supervise the kids and work as well.
I consider tech stuff quite everything related to the use of electronic devices: I.e. the use of a smartphone or a smartwatch or the use of a computer.
Little kids, in my opinion, should focus on things that don’t require electronics, for example things such as LEGO, drawing with pencils instead of a tablet, reading books instead of watching tv or reading an ebook. They shouldn’t have a smartwatch distracting them during school lessons.
They will have time to be deeply involved with electronics but before they must acquire “material” experiences
I won't add to the AI debate already well expressed by other commenters but one thing i don't understand is why the author has posted the name of the "spammed" product and a direct link to their blog: consider how much did he helped them having new traffic and potential customers
With limited exceptions*, [sometimes even egregious] factuality trumps self-censorship.
I myself tend to name-and-shame regardless of how it may turn out, whether "positive" or "negative," when I feel compelled to be posting online about a thing I have encountered in my personal life. I think that openness and clearly-evident facts are very important parts of supporting the story that I wish to tell. (And if I did not wish to tell the story, then I would not have done so.)
* But a line must be drawn somewhere.
My own line is this: When I encounter a fucking nazi in real life, I make sure to not propagate whatever it is that this fucking nazi has to say, even if I have a story to write about that fucking nazi. (And we rather unfortunately have plenty of these fucking nazis here in Ohio, so I do get opportunities every now and then to exercise this self-restraint.)
Name and shame is a worthwhile practice. Driving potential business to The AI powered CMS known as Wisp, is not a good reason to avoid contributing to the common consensus about the company.
And the common consensus in this thread, which I agree with, is that Wisp is obnoxious, insidious, and is an active participant in the degradation of quality of both email, and the internet as a whole.
Am i missing something or does it lacks pdf editing functionalities like adding/editing text or adding images?
I usually use https://smallpdf.com/edit-pdf because 99% of the times i simply need to compile fields with text and attach a png of my signature on some pages and resend the document to the organization that required me to compile it (schools, medical self certifications, governative tax entities and so on).
For those need, smallpdf is fantastic, but obviously i'd prefer an opensource or simply a self hostable solution
(Wont mention libreoffice until their UX for their powerpoint has the text size on the main screen. They have some FOSS saboteur on the team of something)
Columnar Db’s want stuff to be contiguous on disk, and deletes cause the rest of the data in that “block” to be rewritten (imagine deleting a chunk out of the middle of an excel table: you’ve got to move everything else up).
This in turn, creates read+write load. Modern OLAP db’s often support it, often via mitigating strategies to minimise the amount of extra work they incur: mark tainted rows, exclude them from queries, and clean up asynchronously; etc.
Please US citizens, grow up. There had been a time when you were admired and respected, now your country is killing the world.
