sure this writer has developed a model, but I disagree with his assessment: when they open a "diplomatic channel" just to say "our existential weapons programs are nobody else's business", it just creates the appearance of diplomatic cooperation in global media without actually having sincere diplomatic conversation.

it just means the mold should be tilted with respect to the travel direction: if you have the technology to match the speed, surely you have the technology to rotate the receptacle in the horizontal plane to match the horizontal plane rotation angle induced by crosswind.

The problem with such a silly, unrealistic Rube Goldberg style scheme is not only the aircraft attitude but the lateral velocity relative to the runway centerline.

But don’t you think that’s how silly Elon’s rockets look like while they are landing?

For clarity: that is sarcasm.

It very sad there is so much gaming of metrics with LLMs.

If we wish to avoid everyone creating benchmarks for themselves, then instead of predetermined benchmarks (public ones allow gaming, while publicly scored private ones require blind trust) we could use gradient descent on sentences to find disagreements between models, and then present them to human domain experts.

At least it could be public without possibility of leaking (since the model creators don't yet know of all possible disagreements between LLM's, which ones will be selected for review by human experts)

Anyone who closely rewatches the surveillance footage of Mahsa Amini (at the fashion police) a few times, will quickly realize she was executed with a puff of gas, and the descriptions from Nazi concentration camp witnesses, and the description of the father of the weird cherry red bruises, and how she collapses on the footage combined with the behavior of 3 clearly complicit perpetrators before and after her collapse will quickly understand they used hydrogen cyanide, administered with some type of arm or sleeve-mounted bracelet.

The footage was clearly released to potentially reveal these sensitive facts, as the local police were thusly trying to prevent carrying the blame for her death, by showing the parts requisite for understanding.

If you need a more detailed description just reply to this comment and I will give more detail analysis of the footage.

a lot of that energy could have been recuperated with a heat exchanger when the water is refreshed, also in laundry machines.

That's more or less what heat pump clothes dryers do. They draw in air, heat it, and then blow the humid air back over the cold side of the heat pump loop to condense it. They save tons of energy. I don't think there's anything similar for water (in clothes or dish washers) but the quantities might just be too small to bother with.

a counter current heat exchanger might be more reliable than a refrigerant heat pump and more efficient than peltier heat pumps, but yes in theory you can quasistatically move the water out for almost no energy (only the adsorption / mixing energies). And peltiers can be much more efficient at tiny temperature gradients, so a theoretical frictionless positive displacement pump, and a heat pipe between the condensing compartment and the evaporatig compartment (so keeping the 2 compartments at ambient temperature (so no heat losses).

Compressing humid air releases heat which marginally increases the temperature of the condensing compartment, and marginally cools the evaporating compartment with the wet clothes; thus the heat pipe will quickly equilibrate the 2 compartments.

What I don't understand about this type of argument: wouldn't it have been more cost-effective policy BEFORE out-sourcing and offshoring jobs, to condition off-shoring etc on full documentation of all the workflows, all the trade secrets, paying for reverse engineering of tools they did not make themselves, ... after spending that cost they are free to offshore jobs, BUT all of this information is available to any citizen and free of charge, through say normal or university libraries. If another national sees how to automate parts of the offshored company they can have at it, they can gang together to figure out how to reimport the jobs profitably.

on the other hand and orbiter could have a much larger effective telescope diameter by SAR.

While we may run out of human written text of value, we won't run out of symbolic sequences of tokens: we can trivially start with axioms and do random forward chaining (or random backward chaining from postulates), and then train models on 2-step, 4-step, 8-step, ... correct forward or backward chains.

Nobody talks about it, but ultimately the strongest driver for terrascale compute will be for mathematical breakthroughs in crypography (not bruteforcing keys, but bruteforcing mathematical reasoning).

How about an origin agnostic rule for soccer fans: they must wear portable cameras, and pay a bail (which they get back upon good behavior), they pay the escrow at the point of arrival (border train station or at the airport) and return the camera gear at point of departure, upon which they get their escrow back.

Aggressive hooligans don't come at all, or pay ever greater escrows (doubling whenever they misbehave, or halvig when they behave (but never halving below the minimum escrow value).

I think local population would appreciate such measures, regardless of the origin or religious affiliation of aggressive soccer fans.

Sure the soccer industry may suffer from a decrease in ticket sales, but at some point its not soccer industry, but a vacation of violence for the highest bidder... and the local population pays in material damages...
