Sounds eerily similar to the 2000s bust when English majors were being vacuumed up for web development. Maintenance will be fun, I'm sure.

Probably the combination of the price of the car and no severance/ bar money, in this case.

> With a pedigree like that one would merely need not get too drunk before the interview to walk on to almost any "cloud" team.

Thanks for that, I needed a nice laugh today.

Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll be sure to check it out.

You're right about being in for a treat. Thanks for the link.

I tried the query. Second link was to your post. I also got some audi links and a Ford link about vehicle colors.

> I do simple things like using duckduckgo, using a private email service that I trust, only using chrome for social media access, and setting Firefox to be as secure as possible and drop all cookies every time I close it.

I read the comment prior to the username and thought your description of browser use sounded familiar, then checked the name and wasn't surprised that it was your blog where I saw this recommendation.

Do you still use Ghostery with Firefox and Fastmail for email?

I really enjoy your blog btw.

Thanks! I still use Fastmail. I am looking at alternatives to Ghostery.

I second this. I've read a lot of your writings and have even watched your episode of 'Checking in with Erik Meijer', both of are very informative. Thanks for writing this article.

Can you elaborate on being unprepared? Do they struggle with algorithms and data structures? Do they not grasp the computer at a lower level?

I fully agree with the mediocrity part though.

A mix of all of the above.

A few have been unable to discuss basic CS concepts to the point they should get refunds from their colleges. These were mostly smaller liberal arts schools.

Most are unable to work through basic design problems on the whiteboard (not programming and don't require couplex algorithms). I'm not looking for perfect answers - I just want them to talk through their thought process and ask intelligent questions.

Thanks for including Randy Pausch. His 'Last Lecture' is highly recommended for those who haven't seen it. It can be found in melling's link above or directly here:
