I feel like you're trivializing a complex issue.

Developers have the right to say how they want their code to be used in the same way that authors have the right to say how their books can be used.

The code in a public repository doesn't have to be "free" for developers any more than publically downloadable piece of software has to be "free" for end-users.

For example, Microsoft offers a freely downloadable windows iso which people are not allowed to use use without a license.

I'd recomend qutebrowser. It's not exactly what you're looking for out of the box, but it is very customisable. There's a learning curve but once you're used to it, no need to ever reach out for the mouse.

This has been going on for atleast a year.

There's a long video from Techlore which presents the CalyxOS side of the picture and places the blame with GrapheneOS leadership: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx7CZ-2Bajg .

It's a video pushing a whole bunch of clearly fabricated stories and libel about me. The leader of the Calyx Institute and multiple project members have also participated in this abusive behavior. They've tried to pretend as if their highly abusive behavior isn't real and is simply imagined. Techlore's video shows a series of doctored screenshots with him lying through his teeth about the history, context and content of the screenshots. He very openly gets pleasure out of directing his toxic community to harass me and teaching them to push these talking points about me being schizophrenic, crazy and delusional. You're spreading highly abusive and libellous content. The person claiming we're toxic is the one who is an abusive sociopath engaging in character assassination and running an abuse campaign against someone because they take great pleasure in abusing someone on the autism spectrum who gets extremely hurt by their behavior and this harassment campaign.

Nicolas Merrill and other Calyx Institute employees have extensive involvement in this. Nick has repeatedly tried to claim that I'm crazy and delusional. Today, Nick openly tolerated and showed his tacit support for ongoing raids on our rooms. Multiple people currently involved in massive raids on our room alternating between spamming extreme gore and libel were openly bragging about it in the Calyx room. He was there and perfectly happy to allow it. He has openly engaged with people repeatedly insulting me, harassing me and saying that I should kill myself. It's not the GrapheneOS community engaging in a misinformation / libel campaign across platforms and this highly toxic / abusive behavior.

I can link a whole bunch of other Twitter threads and archives about this but I currently need to deal with these ongoing raids on our room by CalyxOS.

Techlore, voice of technical authority.

Jeez, HN, get your shit together.

I don't like the video, it shows Daniel Micay as a toxic sociopathic man, while in reality he is nothing like that

After reading this thread I don't really want to get involved in either community. But I still hope the best for the software projects and wish the best for everybody that does actual development, I hope this situation can get better over time.

Maybe many people get this impression because he (rightfully! I want to be very clear here) defended his accomplishments against the attacks from his Copperhead OS business partner. Without context it's hard to understand

As an Indian living in India, I've heard some of these stories:

a. They are asked to get admitted "for observation because they are at high risk". If they ask to leave, the doctors ask them to sign a very scary sounding wavier disclaiming the hospital of responsibility for their death.

b. There apparently this one lab that will return a positive covid test if the docs ask them to and they get a cut of what the patient pays.

It needs to be said that I don't know if any of these are true.

Let's rewrite this article in a sentence or two:

"Reliance Jio will soon start selling an Android phone which they have called Jiophone next, and it will cost Rs. 3500... probably."

This is total spam. The title has nothing to do with the content of the article... The phone isn't introduced by Google, it's introduced by:

> Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, doing business as Jio

and guess what, the article is total speculation:

> As far as the pricing is concerned, JioPhone could be priced as low as INR 3499.

Emphasis on 'could be' added by me. It isn't released yet and apparently the author is just guessing what it could cost... based on what?

Besides, how is it surprising that this is subsidized? This device is network locked and handicapped.

Jio phones are totally handicapped. They don't even allow users to open a wifi hotspot because that would compete with their wireless routers. Maybe that's what they are 'collaborating with google' on.

This isn't news it's an advertisement.

The main takeaway for me is RIP kaiOS i.e. Proprietary successor of Firefox OS because earlier JioPhones ran them which surprisingly led KaiOS to get the 3rd largest market share in mobile OS.

What ever reasons(App ecosystem majorly) led Jio (An investor in KaiOS) to ditch KaiOS is applicable to all other manufacturers too, Especially if Google(another investor) partnering with them(Android Go? Subsidizing HW?).

> making sure people don't need to call.

Almost every IVR I have ever used makes me believe business invest in making sure people can't call or at least have a very hard time reaching a human.

Amazon makes it so easy to get help from a human that they call you...

I'm reminded of a policy of the southeastern US grocery store chain Publix: if there's a pricing error, the item is free. It will probably come as no surprise that pricing errors are extremely rare there.

When a company creates a significant incentive for itself to get an aspect of its business right, it will probably get that aspect right. I don't think I've ever wanted to call Amazon on the phone, and nearly every issue I can recall has had a satisfactory solution within their UI.

> nearly every issue I can recall has had a satisfactory solution within their UI.

They started shipping me books bound tightly in bubble-padded manila envelopes. The binding was so tight that the books arrived with damage caused by Amazon's own stupid packaging choice. I repeatedly returned these books with the explicit note "book was damaged due to bad packaging; please use different packaging". They were not capable of fixing their problem.

You assume enough customers complain to make it worth changing.

One is enough, if your definition of "worth changing" refers to profit margins.

This rule is basically standard in supermarkets in Australia even though not legally required. In my life I have only once noticed a pricing error.

> if there's a pricing error, the item is free.

I love Publix, but I think this is marketing blargh. They once had a cuisinart dish marked with a $9.99 price tag so I bought it. The cashier rang it up as $199.99 and I brought it to her attention. She brought over a manager who said it was an error in labeling and should have been marked down to $99.99 and they would honor the intended sale price.

I mentioned the policy and she shrugged and asked if I want it or not. I declined and she put a new price tag on it at $99.99.

There was only one item and it was in the deal section. This is my only experience of Publix being lame in decades of use. Really surprising. This was also the only pricing error I’ve ever encountered.

I have never shopped at Publix, but I can't even recall being a victim of a pricing error in another grocery.

I think you may find that pricing errors in grocery chains are extremely rare, period.

I've experienced numerous pricing errors at Walmart. You could argue that Walmart belongs in a different category, but a large part of their business is groceries.

I've experienced one pricing error at Publix having shopped at them for the better part of two decades. My item was, indeed free and the cashier sounded excited to be able to use the policy.

> Edge

I think that's OP's point. Edge uses chromium.

It isn't technical debt any more if you can default on it.

It's stable? It's fast? It works? No bugs have been reported on it for years?

Regardless of how I 'feel' about that piece of code, I objectively should _not_ touch it.

> more if you can default on it

I have not seen this use of the word "default" before. Does it mean "not touch"?

They're referring to the "debt" bit of "technical debt". If you default on a loan then that means you did not pay back a payment that is due, at least not on time. If this happens enough in real life you might end up with bankruptcy. If you could default on a loan and suffer no consequences then it might happen more often!

That makes perfect sense. Thank you

I hide the front page and recommendations with ublock rules and go directly to the 'subscriptions' page instead.

It's the only way to see new videos from creators I care about.

This is a lot worse than it looks.

Shame on Whitehatjr and on Byju's. This is outright fraud.

Beside that: check out the ad on the right hand side of the screenshot. The keyboard ... ><

Owned by Disney.

Apparently, Disney created a joint venture with Bjyu's for pre school kids.
